Front Kick
Japanese Term:
Maegeri (MAH-EH-GEH-RHEE)
Instructions:
Begin by shifting your weight to the standing leg, keeping the knee slightly bent. Then lift the kicking foot from the floor, bending your leg at the knee. The heel should be tucked tightly to the back of the leg, with the foot held in a bent position toward the shin. All the toes should be pointed up. Next bring the knee up and forward, thrusting the kicking hip forward and pivoting the standing foot and body to the forty five degree angle. When the kicking knee is stomach level, snap the lower leg out. You should thrust the kicking hip forward. The foot extends at the ankle allowing for the ball of the foot to strike the target. When retracting the leg, don’t drop the knee. It must maintain a level height though out the snap. After the snap, place the foot on the floor. |
