Inside Forearm Block Tutorial
Japanese Term:
Uchi Kote Uke (OO-CHEE-KOH-TAY-OO-KAY)
Instructions:
The transition consists of taking the hiki-te hand and placing it behind your head, pointing the elbow directly behind you. The palm turns out. The hand then moves in a circular motion to the front, passing across the face to the opposite side of the head. The thumb is even with the opposite ear and the hand is eye level. The arm has a slight tilt forward, forming a one hundred degree angle, keeping the blocking portion of the arm vertical. The opposite arm pulls back to form a hiki-te. This block is meant to stop techniques aimed at the head. The arm must fully pass to the opposite side of the head to work. Also, the blocking side of the forearm should be vertical. This technique relies on the torque of the body while changing direction.
