Straight Punch Tutorial

Japanese Term:

Seikenzuki (SAY-KEN-ZOO-KEE)

Instructions:

Begin by simultaneously extending your punching arm forward, while drawing the other arm back. You should begin turning the retracting arm over, palm up, at the beginning of the execution, while keeping the punching hand palm up until the last moment. The punching arm locks out. The opposite hand should end up being palm up and tucked tightly to your side, solar plexus level forming a hiki-te. Do not to rotate the punching fist early, as this will cause your elbow to turn out, weakening the technique. You should be punching with the two large fore knuckles. The wrist should be straight.

Repeat slowly, concentrate on proper form. Then begin executing the punch faster; remember to snap the technique. When done at full speed you should "kiaii" or yell with each technique.
